In May, United won their third European crown - the second under Ferguson - beating Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out in Moscow, after having steered United to a last-gasp victory over Bayern Munich in 1999.& Q) r1 Y! B2 e- H
Now the driven Scot is set on tasting Champions League glory again before calling time on an unprecedented run of success as a club manager.
United are currently in South Africa on their pre-season tour - and Ferguson's hunger for trophies is as keen as it ever was. At 66 years old, he said of the Champions League:
"It is the greatest club tournament in the world and to win it elevates you into a different level altogether.
"When we won it in 1999 I said at the time I hoped we would win it again but I wanted to enjoy it a bit more as we scored two goals in the last two minutes.
"This time I had to wait until the last penalty kick had been taken. Therefore, once again I had to go through all that intensity and tension.
"Being a nervous wreck is not good for you. But it was a fantastic game and a fantastic achievement.
"We do not want to wait nine years again. I will be up in that big penalty box in the sky by then!"
