Reds Not In For Freddy
United are not in the race to sign talented American teenager Freddy Adu, the club have stressed.
The player's agent, Richard Motzkin, was quoted over the weekend saying United and Chelsea want to bring the 16-year-old to the Premiership.
Adu, who plays for Major League Soccer outfit DC United, has been widely tipped for stardom since the age of 14.
Motzkin told BBC Radio Five Live: "Chelsea and Manchester United have talked with us about Freddy and are interested."
Although he did say that no deal had been done with any club, he was quoted as saying that he expected discussions with both clubs to continue.
But Reds chief executive David Gill and Sir Alex Ferguson are both said to be keen on ending speculation linking United with a move for the forward.
"We are not interested in Adu," Sir Alex told MUTV. "We watched him as a youngster, but there is no interest in him at the moment."
