Manchester United chief executive David Gill has fired back at Rafael Benitez, saying the Liverpool manager "missed the boat completely" by suggesting he had a conflict of interest.
Benitez, who had earlier accused United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson of hypocrisy and serial whingeing, returned to the fray to point a finger at Gill, a senior figure at England's governing Football Association.
"Is there a conflict of interest with David Gill at the FA?" asked Benitez, whose side could be overtaken by United at the top of the Premiership if the Red Devils win their two games in hand against Wigan and Bolton.
"That is another fact. It is a fact that one person has a lot of power and control, and is on a lot of committees in the FA. To me that is very strange." www.imanutd.com. c/ I8 U+ b  x9 v) g2 V  Q: l
But Gill, who was in Macau to launch details of Manchester United's 2009 tour of Asia, dismissed the comments as "pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things." www.imanutd.com! O8 p- r1 t/ Q& m' j6 {# H
"I was elected over the summer by the Premier League clubs. I'm very clear in my role," he said.

Ferguson has already responded to Benitez's initial comments, saying there was "a lot of venom" in what he said.
Meanwhile, Gill has confirmed United's pre-season tour with games in China, South Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Manchester United will depart on July 16 for China where they will play in a yet-to-be-decided city.
From there, they move to Seoul for a match on July 20 and then down to Jakarta for the first time, where they will take on an Indonesia Super League Select at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on July 24. 曼联在线·球迷地带# ~1 F' ^5 Y; O/ I

之后，他们将会前往首尔，20号在那里比赛，随后南下雅加达，与印尼联赛的一支球队在7月24号进行一场比斯。

26号，曼联将会在马拉西亚进行最后一场比赛，然后结束整个行程。
