The French club claimed that Ryan Giggs' goal in the last 16 first leg tie should not have stood. They believe that referee Eric Braamhaar made a technical error by not blowing his whistle before the free-kick had been taken and, therefore, were requesting that the match be replayed.

Their initial protest was vetoed by the Control and Disciplinary Body, but Les Dogues officials appealed against the ruling.

UEFA are due to meet on 22 March to discuss a number of issues that arose after the first leg tie at Stade Felix-Bollaert, including the reaction to Giggs' goal by the Lille players, though the Ligue 1 side have strenuously denied that they were contemplating an unprecedented walk-off.- n  N% n8 I: D" b3 S

The meeting will also include discussions about the possible violation of safety and security provisions by the host club, and the alleged improper conduct of both sets of supporters.

The teams meet in the second leg on Wednesday at Old Trafford with United well placed but by no means guaranteed to reach the last eight.
