Amazon.co.uk Review
The most talked about, written about and argued over sports autobiography of 2002, Keane: the Autobiography does not disappoint. This story of Manchester United and Ireland captain Roy Keane''s brilliant and controversial career, written in collaboration with Irish journalist and former professional footballer Eamon Dunphy, crackles with score-settling vigour. It presents a revisionist view of a life in football that has had tabloid editors rubbing their hands with glee almost from the moment the fiery, confrontational midfielder made his British debut for Nottingham Forest under arch eccentric Brian Clough right through to his sensational bust-up with international boss Mick McCarthy and subsequent departure from the 2002 Irish World Cup squad on the eve of the finals. Amid all the wrangling and point-scoring Dunphy and Keane have written a rags-to-riches review of Keane''s journey from a poor, battling background in Cork to the £50k a week highlife at Old Trafford. It''s very entertaining, although an independent biographer would doubtless have put a less heroic spin on proceedings. The two key headline-grabbing stories--the war with McCarthy and the allegedly deliberate injuring of Alfie Haaland--read somewhat differently in the book from the way they did in the papers. Make no mistake about it, Keane is frank about his own failings, franker about the failings of others and prepared to spill the beans to some extent about being the odd-man-out in the Old Trafford glam-fest. But this is very much his side of the story. --Alex Hankin --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

内容简介
Book Description
Ryan Giggs first played for Manchester United in the season before the Premiership began; back when Bryan Robson was still captain. He took possession of United’s left wing and never loosened his grip. Over a fourteen year career so far, he’s seen them all come and go: Cantona, Schmeichel, Beckham and the rest.
Sir Alex Ferguson said of Giggs ‘I knew we had an outstanding talent when we gave him his debut.’ That was back in 1991, but it remains as true in 2005 as it ever was. Giggs has been a pivotal figure in United’s dominance of the Premiership. There have been rivals but no other team can match the their sustained record of success over recent years. And Giggs is the only player to have played in all eight of those title winning campaigns.

Off the pitch, Ryan Giggs has always closely guarded his private life. But here he opens up for the first time, sharing details of the sometimes turbulent childhood that shaped him and the relationships that have mattered to him to reveal the man behind the famous number 11 red shirt.

One thing seems clear: the Old Trafford crowd will be singing ‘Giggs will tear you apart again!’ for a few years yet.

内容简介
Book Description
Cristiano Ronaldo is the world famous Manchester United and Portuguese International footballer, admired around the world for his unique style of play. Football fans recognise instantly how he dribbles the ball, but theres a great deal about him that has never been made public before. Cristiano recognises that his youth does not yet give him the right to produce an autobiography, and Moments does not set out to be one. It is an invitation to the reader to share with him some of the most fantastic moments of his career so far, and get to know him a little better. As well as an array of sumptuous photographs, Cristiano Ronaldo gives his thoughts about his life so far, both on and off the pitch. Moments relates the story of his love of football from early childhood in Madeira, the homesickness he suffered as a result of the move, aged 12, to a football academy in Lisbon, through to his time with Manchester United, the club which has really made him famous and turned him into a football idol at only 22 years of age. He speaks of his love of playing for his country and the love and support of his family, as well as the sad moments in his life such as the death of his father. The book also shows glimpses of him training and enjoying his leisure time, the charity work he involves himself in, as well as off-field activities in both his professional capacity and for pleasure. He hopes that through these stories, and beautiful photographs by Jorge Monteiro, you will get to know Cristiano Ronaldo a little better. As you finish reading the last line he also trusts you will have enjoyed the book as much as you enjoy watching him play football.

1. Great book about a great soccer player!, October 25, 2007
                             By N., Vanessa "valeska1" (Germany)
Yesterday I received "Moments", and I must say that it is a great book!!!

I guess the first thing you notice is that it's a big book with all the pages printed on high quality glossy paper, and it's full of fantastic photos.

Ronaldo himself has said that he is too young yet to write a real autobiography, and therefore "Moments" is not just the usual write-up of dates, facts and numbers that many footballers sell as books these days. Instead, he decided to share some of the events that happened in his life so far by writing short stories and adding numerous pictures.

From his early years playing for Sporting Lissabon to winning the Premier Leage with Manchester United, from childhood dreams to his father's death, from being named captain of the Portuguese National Team to everyday routine ... this book provides a very nice glimpse into the life and mind of one of the best footballers in the world today. He certainly seems to have his head (and heart) in the right place!

All of Cristianos fans will also love this book for the countless great (and previously unpublished) photos!!!

2. Your image of Ronny will change after reading this book, 24 Oct 2007
                              By P. D. Barry "elite_fitnessuk" (England)
Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world (along with Rooney, Kaka, Messi and Ronaldinho - in my opinion!). This book is not so much an autobiography, but more of a series of "Moments" of his life so far.

With great colourful pictures of the man himself, he takes you through his childhood, a brief time at Sporting Lisbon, right upto his transfer to Manchester United.

Ronny comes across as a very thoughtful, caring, and deep young man. One that has definitely got his head screwed on properly, unlike many other "super-star" footballers out there. The most interesing parts of the book are about his relationship with his father who tragically died a couple of years ago, and "that" moment in the 2006 World Cup with Rooney.

I still think the average English football fan has a negative impression of Ronaldo, but after reading this book, I am sure that would change to a far more positive one.

Overall, a quality book about a quality footballer!!

3. muito bem!, 8 Nov 2007
                              By W. Liu (London, UK)
A great preview into one of the worlds best midfield players to date. From Madeira, he played with Nacional before going on a three day trial with Sporting Lisbon. Whilst in the summer of 2003 Sporting beat Man Utd 3-1 to which Sir Alex Ferguson was hugely impressed with the youngster & signed him in replacement to Beckham. Ronaldo was then handed the No.7 shirt famously worn by Beckham. Ever since then Ronaldo has played magnificently not only for Manchester United whereas he won players footballer of the year, but also young player of the season. In the world cup 2006, he played magnificently for international Portugal & has taken over captaincy from internationally retired Luis Figo.

The Portuguese version of this book is excellent too, it took slightly longer for it to be released in the Uk due to the translation. But overall an excellent book!!!

Book Description
At just 20 years of age, Wayne Rooney is already one of the best footballers in the world. From his early years in Croxteth, his Premiership debut as a 16-year-old, his dramatic entrance on the international scene in Euro 2004, to the last kick of the 2006 World Cup, this is his amazing story so far. All football pundits agree that for England to have any chance of victory at this summer's World Cup Rooney must be fit. It is a level of national expectation on one player the like of which has not been seen since Pele and Maradona steered Brazil and Argentina to World Cup glory. What is the true story behind the most talked-about person in British football? Were there signs of things to come in his upbringing in the backstreets of Liverpool? What were the early influences that shaped his character? And how has the meteoric rise to fame and fortune affected this seemingly shy yet prodigiously gifted youngster? For the first time in his own words, Rooney opens up about the defining years of his life as the son of a working-class family, brought up in a council house with his Everton-mad family. There followed his first tentative steps in football, the triumphs and knockbacks along the way, the accolades that began to follow his every move as a young teenager, and destiny fulfilled on his Premiership debut for Everton at the tender age of 16. He goes on to describe how his life changed irrevocably when Alex Ferguson and Manchester United came calling in the summer of 2004, his dazzling efforts for England in the European Championships, a private life never far from the tabloid headlines, and the real story behind his relationship with partner Colleen McLoughlin. For World Cup 2006, Rooney will report in detail on every aspect of the tournament. He assesses the tension in the camp, particularly the frustration of those who don't make the final squad. He reveals who are his closest friends in the England set-up, as well as his views on England captain David Beckham and the outgoing Sven-Goran Eriksson. The story so far. In Rooney's own words. From the streets of Croxteth to the stadiums of Germany - a journey of a lifetime squeezed into a mere twenty years.

1. Well, of course it's dreadful...but let's not blame Wayne, 4 Jan 2007
By Dr. George L. Sik (Epsom, Surrey)

Although I'm not a Man United supporter, I was really looking forward to this. Hunter Davies is one of the best ghostwriters in the business and the publishers had lavished a reported five million quid advance on this book and four follow-ups over the course of Wayne's life. Rooney is still, despite the World Cup, considered by many to be the most talented player in the country and he's had his fair share of off-pitch controversy to boot. There surely had to be SOMETHING interesting to read in here, if only for fifteen minutes?

Well, no. Nothing at all. Save your money.

There are two problems: one is that an autobiography is inevitably always best when looking back on a long and interesting life...or at least career. Hunter's work with Paul Gascoigne is a case in point - painful but fascinating reading. I don't buy the fact that young people should never get involved with autobiographies...it's just much harder to make them interesting.

But that's not the main problem really and in the end it's not entirely Rooney's fault - it's out of his hands. The reason this book is so very bad is that, no doubt pandering to Rooney's totalitarian manager Alex Ferguson and satanic agent Paul Stretford, any attempt to express an opinion, say something fascinating or offer an insight has been totally washed away. Even all that business about being caught in a brothel barely gets a couple of hollow paragraphs, presumaby to spare Colleen further embarrassment. So there's just nothing of the slightest interest left.

There are only two remaining questions (aside from the obvious one about why anybody bought this at all): given that Everton manager David Moyes has issued legal proceedings against Rooney over comments made in the book, how come it's still so very dull? And what on earth are they going to put in the other four?

2. Simple, easy to read, got me through lazy summer days!, 17 Sep 2006
By T. S. Clarke "snsauage" (UK)

So ok, while other reviewers say this is no 'masterpiece' in literature, what did they expect? This is just a simple, yet well written insight into his life. He doesnt go into great depth surrounding his home life, or childhood, but suggesting from the book cover, it wasnt his main intention. He simply delivers the facts surrounding his football career - how he got to where he is today, the highs, lows etc.
I'll admit, this is no-where near as in depth into his life as say, David Beckhams autobigraphy (even with tiny lettering its still thick!) but at just 20, hes got a whole life ahead of him, and plenty more book deals!
While this book is quite thick and is roomy on the bookshelf, the large lettering makes it decieving, and you'll be flying through in time. Pay over £10 too and you've probably not got your moneys worth, its been made to look like a hefty book of writing.
I think as time goes on, Rooney will soon develop a better style of writing that'll 'hopefully' include more interesting facts about his lifestyle. But for now, this will do.

内容简介
Book Description
This is a moving story of how a legendary football team was lost to tragedy - and how this disaster irrevocably altered the lives of the survivors and the bereaved families, and ultimately brought shame on the biggest football club in the world. The Manchester United team, Matt Busby had built in the fifties from the club's successful youth policy, seemed destined to dominate football for many years. Such was the power of the 'Busby Babes' that they seemed invincible. The average age of the side which won the Championship in 1955-56 was just 22, the youngest ever to achieve such a feat. A year later, when they were Champions again, nothing, it seemed, would prevent this gifted young team from reigning for the next decade. But then came 6 February 1958, the day that eight Manchester United players died on a German airfield in the 'Munich Air Disaster' - a date to be forever etched in the annals of sporting tragedy. Duncan Edwards, Eddie Colman, Tommy Taylor, Roger Byrne ... the names were already enshrined in legend before the air crash, but Munich in many ways earned them immortality. They have never grown old. Jeff Connor traces the rise of the greatest Manchester United side of all time, alongside a vibrant portrait of England in the 1950s, but he also paints a dark picture of a club that enriched itself on the myth of Munich while neglecting the families of the dead and the surviving players. The repercussions and the toll the disaster took on so many linger to the present day. Drawing on extensive interviews with the Munich victims and players of that era, "The Lost Babes" is the definitive account of British football's golden age, a poignant story of the protracted effects of loss and a remorseless dissection of the how the richest football club in the world turned its back on its own players and their families.

Barry Forshaw
The Lost Babes (subtitled Manchester United and the Forgotten Victims of Munich) is Jeff Connor's compellingly readable account of one of the great tragedies in sporting history and its aftermath. The great manager Matt Busby had forged Manchester United into an invincible team in the 1950s. No one seemed able to halt the progress of these young and immensely talented players as they added the 1955-6 Championship Trophy to their accomplishments, repeating the feat next year. But all this was to change in the most tragic fashion when on the sixth of February, 1958, the plane bringing the team home from Munich crashed, ending the lives of eight of the Manchester United players along with other passengers on the plane. Britain (not just fans of the team) was devastated, as the careers of such talents as Roger Byrne (England’s Captain), Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor and Eddie Coleman were ended at a stroke. Connor describes this devastating incident with both vividness and sympathy, but he is equally to be praised for his handling of subsequent events, notably the lives of the players who survived the crash and the families of those who didn't. The Lost Babes describes the inauguration of one of the great football teams in sporting history, and does so against a richly drawn panoply of the Britain of the day. He is unsparing and when describing the aftermath of the plane crash, with the club making the Munich tragedy emblematic while not looking after the survivors or the families and relatives of those who died. Of the surviving members of the team, some were unable to play ever again, and the case of the celebrated Jackie Blanchflower, severely injured in the crash, became a cause célèbre, as he became homeless when he was abruptly removed from the club house very shortly after the accident, with virtually no compensation.

Connor has spoken at length to the victims of the Munich crash, along with many other players (and important figures) of the era, and he makes the case that the resonances of the tragedy have echoed down to the very present, with current surreal and stratospheric payments to modern stars (such as Eric Cantona) throwing into relief the injustices of the past. When so many sports books are anodyne celebrations, Jeff Connor is to be applauded for making such an uncompromising and trenchant book so immensely readable.

内容简介
Synopsis
Wayne Rooney, the most talked about footballer in Britain, tells his own remarkable story, from his early years with his family growing up on the streets of Croxteth, about his relationship with Coleen McLoughlin, and about life in Manchester. It's all about a young man coming to terms with a career in the limelight -- the good and the bad. What is the true story behind the most gifted yet often misunderstood character in the British game? Were there signs of things to come in his upbringing in the backstreets of Liverpool? What were the early influences that shaped his character? And how has the meteoric rise to fame and fortune affected this seemingly shy yet prodigiously gifted youngster? For the first time, Rooney opens up about the defining years of his life as the son of a working-class family, brought up in a council house with his Everton-mad family. There followed his first tentative steps in football, the triumphs and knockbacks along the way, the accolades that began to follow his every move as a young teenager, and destiny fulfilled on his Premiership debut for Everton at the tender age of 16. He describes how his life changed irrevocably when Alex Ferguson and Manchester United came calling in the summer of 2004, his dazzling efforts for England in the European Championships, a private life never far from the tabloid headlines, and the real story behind his relationship with partner Coleen McLoughlin. He reveals the anguish of the foot injury that threatened his participation in World Cup 2006, and how his determination led to a remarkable recovery in time to play a part in the group stage of the tournament. And he describes how his delight at playing again for his country turned to depair after his controversial sending-off in the quarter-final against Portugal and England's subsequent elimination in the penalty shoot-out. And in this updated paperback edition, he revisits the drama of United's Premiership-winning 2006/07 season and their tumultuous battles with Chelsea and giants AC Milan. This is the story in Rooney's own words. From the streets of Croxteth to the stadiums of Germany and beyond -- a journey of a lifetime squeezed into a mere twenty-one years.
